Band Bio
Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, “Rich Trueman & the 22nd Street Horn Band” bring a high-octane blend of Soul, R&B, Jazz and Rock to any stage. Formed around frontman and singer Rich Trueman, the 22nd Street Horn Band delivers an immersive experience powered by a tight rhythm section, dynamic and complex horn arrangements and a vocal style steeped in classic soul and blues.
Origins & Style
Two UW-Milwaukee music students recognized a gap in the local music scene – there were no horn-driven groups. They assembled the band to deliver not just songs, but full‐on musical journeys that feature a real live horn section. A group to capture the spirit of the classic soul and jazz-rock groups that they grew up with. After contacting top-notch musicians from the area, they began rehearsals at a community center on 22nd Street and National Avenue.
The horn section—with its namesake “22nd Street Horn Band” moniker—adds brassy punch, melodic flourishes, and call-and-response energy that elevates each set from a mere performance to a celebration of groove and emotion. The group’s stylistic tag—“Soul, R&B, Jazz, Rock”––speaks to their willingness to cross genre lines, swing one moment, turn funky the next, and rock out when the set calls for it.
Performances & Presence
Whether playing at local Milwaukee hotspots such as Shank Hall or regional festivals like Summerfest and the Wisconsin State Fair, the band showcases strong live credentials. They’ve also been featured at free outdoor events and pubs around Wisconsin, bringing their unique sound to business anniversaries, holiday celebrations, private parties, and major local venues. The band’s live shows shine through not just technical skill but a deeply felt connection with audiences: dancing, singing along, and swaying to the beat.
Musical Approach & Vibe
At the heart of the band’s approach is the melding of an infectious groove with soulful vocals and horns that don’t simply accompany but converse with the rhythm and melody. Rich Trueman’s voice leads the charge—commanding, expressive, and rooted in a deep appreciation of soul and R&B tradition—while the horn section adds texture, energy and a sense of occasion. Their repertoire leans on both familiar classics (think funk & soul staples) and originals or deep cuts that highlight the ensemble’s musicianship. The vibe: you’ll want to move, you’ll want to listen, you’ll want more.
